“Cylinder” is an auditory masterpiece and by the acclaimed sound artist, Gustavo Matamoros. This pioneering ambisonic sound art installation promises an experience that transcends the traditional boundaries of sound and physical space.
ABOUT THE WORK:
“Cylinder” is the culmination of Gustavo’s first year-and-a-half-long artistic residency at the i360 Theater. The avant-garde state-of-the-art i360 XR Theater is nestled within the Glenn Hubert Library at the Florida International University’s Biscayne Bay Campus. Cylinder is not just an installation, but a testament to the artist’s journey and exploration of sound and physical space — a journey that will now become a permanent part of the Theater’s collection.
Gustavo’s installations, including “Cylinder,” are renowned for their ability to reveal the unique acoustic personality of a particular space. Through sustained tones that resonate with the architecture, they invite the audience into a deeper understanding of the unseen dimensions of space and a heightened state of consciousness.
On this day, we are excited to present the world premiere of “Cylinder.” This one-day sound installation will be open from 4 PM to 8 PM. We invite audiences to step into the installation, to sit, stand, and wander through the space. To maintain an intimate experience, we request groups to be no larger than ten people at a time.

The world premiere of “Symbiosis,” an ambisonic sound art collaboration between the illustrious David Dunn and Gustavo Matamoros, is an extraordinary auditory adventure.
ABOUT THE WORK:
“Symbiosis” is a breathtaking blend of electronic sounds generated by an autonomous chaotic system of dozens of analog circuits and digital electronics, masterfully designed by David Dunn. These unpredictable sounds flow over a bed of ever-evolving resonant frequencies, the acoustic signature of the i360 Theater’s architecture, expertly captured and presented in full ambisonic format by Gustavo Matamoros.
“Symbiosis” invites audiences into an immersive auditory landscape, where sound becomes physical and intertwines with space in unpredictable and exciting ways. Experience the magic of this world premiere and let “Symbiosis” take you on a journey into the world of sound and architecture.
