A showcase celebrating 25 festivals featuring performances by both visiting and host artists, tributes and works by noted Subtropics artists in absentia as well as talks about experimental music and sound art by noted speakers.
The Inter Media sets will feature rare Subtropics archival content honoring the work of festival Tribute Artists and Absentees such as Jacki Apple, John Cage, Joseph Celli, The Creative Destruction, Russell Frehling, Robert Gregory, John Giorno, Jon Christopher Nelson, Brenda Hutchinson, Chris Mann, Phill Niblock, Aislinn Quinn/Absolute Zero, Charles Recher, Armando Rodriguez, Carles Santos, Helen Thorington, Gregory Whitehead and Davey Williams.

SOUND PAINTINGS
by Frozen Music
Sound Paintings is the world premiere immersive sound film installation for
120-channels by Frozen Music featuring David Dunn, Rene Barge and
Gustavo Matamoros, with a film adapted for the Wallcast newly upgraded
projection system by Ricardo Matamoros
With this large-scale piece we celebrate both, the opening of Subtropics 25,
Miami’s experimental festival of music and sound art as well as the duodecennial
of Frozen Music.

A day of performances and inter media tributes, audio art, films and radio
works organized in one hour long sets featuring Subtropics Biennial guest
and host artists and performers.

This program showcases content from our Subtropics Inter Media Archive
and Collection that features audio and visual media representing some of
Subtropics National Advisory Board member artists who couldn’t attend
this time around including Alison Knowles, Brenda Hutchinson, George E. Lewis,
Russell Frehling, Trimpin, and Gregory Whitehead, with a special video of
a piece by Toshi Ichiyanagi. This set is only half and hour long.
