Special residencies include the commissioning of new work for public presentation, such as:

M.I.A.M.I. Klangflotte, 1999

A two-year residency with composer TRIMPIN yielded the unique M.I.A.M.I. Klanglotte, a fleet of kinetic sound machines on customized rickshaws that play automated music. A parade of computer-activated, radio-controlled mini-orchestras on wheels, this iSAW commission was performed in 6 different locations in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, from Main Street, Homestead to Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, and from the Main Library in Downtown Miami to Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road

Balseros, 1997

Balseros, the opera by Robert Ashley with a libretto by Maria Irene Fornes was commissioned by the Florida Grand Opera, Miami Dade Community College – Wolfson Campus, and the South Florida Composers Alliance’s iSAW

1998 commissions for The Glass Orchestra

In 1998 iSAW commissioned pieces from South Florida Composers for The Glass Orchestra. Works by Orlando Garcia, Fred Glesser, Drew Krause and David Manson were premiered in Toronto and performed in Miami and in Tampa with guest musicians Lisa Lacross, flute and Luis Gomez-Imbert, doublebass, as part of The Glass Orchestra’s 2-year long International Cultural Exchange residency at iSAW
