The Subtropics Marathon, initially a feature event at the Subtropics Festival, showcased South Florida-based artists. After Subtropics became biennial, the Marathon became a standalone event in off years.
In 2025, the Subtropics 2025 Marathon Festival will pay tribute to Florida-based composer Francis Schwartz—esteemed avant-garde icon with an international reputation spanning several decades.

The Marathon will feature works by numerous Subtropics artists based in South Florida. This multi-evening event will begin with the unveiling of the public sound art piece Quail Roost Sanctuary by Gustavo Matamoros, followed by the Soundologia Records Festival of recent South Florida releases at The Bridge, and conclude with two evenings of Subtropics 2025 Marathon programs at the newly renovated Deering Estate Black Box Theater.
