  • ALISON KNOWLES: PAPER WEATHER RESIDENCY

    SFCA [ISAW+SUBTROPICS]
    is proud to host a week-long residency with

    ALISON KNOWLES

    Alison Knowles was born in New York City in 1933. She is a visual artist known for her soundworks, installations, performances, publications and association with Fluxus, the experimental avant-garde group formally founded in 1962.

    Her summer residency at Audiotheque consists of a Paper Weather Workshop, printmaking, audio recordings, and a Listening Club performance presentation.

    PAPER WEATHER INSTRUMENTS:
    A ONE DAY WORKSHOP FOR PAPER MAKERS WITH ALISON KNOWLES

    Workshop participants make paper and learn how to assemble various acoustic instruments with it. These instruments will be recorded and included in Alison’s Listening Club presentation. For workshop details click here.

    Fluxus artist #AlisonKnowles demonstrates and explains the sound capabilities of her Paper Weather instruments—some of them created during her residency’s workshop at ArtCenter’s Printshop.

    She will also present collaborative recordings made and performed with Gustavo Matamoros during her residency at our Audiotheque studio, as well as, performances? of Loose Pages with her daughter, Jessica Higgins, and Shoreline, a piece she created for Fluxus Day during Subtropics XIX in 2007.

    ADMISSION:
    Bring a    n item of old clothing to contribute to the performance of Shoreline.
