An exploration into the sonic worlds of the double bass in two parts. The first half consists of a set of improvised music for solo bass, exploring timbre and structure. The second half pairs bass with electronics, amplifying and expanding the sonic landscape. Included in the second half will be Alvin Lucier’s Homage to James Tenney for double bass and pure wave oscillators.
Kyle Motl is a bassist, composer, and improvisor currently residing in San Diego. A member of master free jazz drummer Abbey Rader’s quartet, Kyle is heavily involved in the performance of both improvised music and contemporary concert music. Current performance interests include solo improvisation and performance with interactive electronics. Kyle holds a BM from Florida Atlantic University, a MM from Florida International University, and is currently pursuing a DMA at UC San Diego, studying with Mark Dresser.
