subtropics.org is the public face of a larger entity -- a showcase of public events leading to a biennial festival of experimental music and sound art.  Subtropics began as, and continues to be a tool for experimenting with new contexts of public presentation in search for ideal and appropriate ways to expose communities to a new generation of sound works.

isaw stands for interdisciplinary sound arts workshop and is the mind of our organization.  It provides adequate and flexible facilities and infrastructure for our artists to create and develop their wide-ranging ideas that generate content for our Subtropics Biennial programming.  isaw also partners with its artists to publish and design content, educational materials and new tools that contribute to the understanding and advancement of sound art practice.  Some of its projects include:  SOUND (a traveling sound art exhibition), Frozen Music (a site-specific ensemble),  isaw's Audiotheque (our artist studio and Listening Club space on Lincoln Road),  and isaw's soundarchive (documenting a quarter century of significant experimental music and sound art activity in South Florida)

SFCA is short for South Florida Composers Alliance, Inc. which function is to act as the administrative 501(c)(3) not-for-profit umbrella for isaw, subtropics.org and other special projects involving individual artists and partner organizations in South Florida and beyond.
