
The future of many arts organizations — large and small — is threatened by budget cuts of $11,000,000 to the Department of Cultural Affairs by Mayor Alvarez of Miami-Dade County in his proposed budget for FY-2009-10. That amounts to $0.00 available for grants to organizations and a direct loss of administrative and other jobs within these organizations, plus the inability of these organizations to hire artists! In a world-class city like Miami which depends on tourism for revenue, saving $1.00 of funding to the arts represents a loss of $27.00 in direct economic impact.
