Miami-based Inlets Ensemble are joined by visiting composer-performer Maya Verlaak for an event focused on memory, recording and forgetting—utilizing the recalled, formed and lost memories of the performers and audience. Maya is composer in-residence with the ensemble for the month of November, and the evening will feature her work, along with a collaboration with Inlets Ensemble co-founder Robert Blatt and a few surprises.

Inlets Ensemble is a Miami-based new music ensemble comprised of some of the city’s most adventurous musicians and sound artists. The ensemble performs contemporary and historical works of experimental music, collaborates closely with living composers and realizes events of an expanded concert experience.

Maya Verlaak is a Belgian composer and performer. Her work is distinguished by distancing herself from the conventional sound-focused compositional process, taking a critical approach by analyzing context and re-evaluating the situation from the periphery. She studied at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague (NL), and is currently a PhD student through the Midlands3Cities Doctoral Training Partnership in Birmingham (UK).
